In the spirit of Birthdays...

I never got around to posting this pic I snapped at John's birthday brunch we celebrated at the super snazzy place he works at. So think of this as a retroactive shout out birthday picture that should have accompanied his birthday post on June 8th. Love ya John!

Four handsome men in a very cute picture!

I got hung up on the "snazzy" decor - is that asparagus growing in a cup on the table?

Love, Teresa

Teresa- you're killing me with your comments! The pic with the handsome men makes up for the estrogen filled drama queen pic below I think. I think the center of the tables had little snippets of some Asian plant that looks quite like asparagus. BUT John should clarify this for us. It's just a really sheek place- My favorite element of course were the square/rectangular plates. Our muffins and scones came out dusted with something tasty and had two little square condiment bowls holding a cream and a strawberry spread...as you can see I remember these types of details for some reason. I say if I had 9 lives to live I'd spend one of them working as an exec chef in my own restaurant- this stuff thrills me! In the one life I'm choosing to live, I get a kick out of adding restaurant style elements to our home when I can. Thanks for letting me ramble about this...

I think it is bamboo on the table - I have a plant at my house :)

Carolyn,

In all truthfulness, I completely appreciate what you are saying about "atmosphere" contributing a lot to our joy, whether at home or out to eat. I think that's why I love our tea parties so much. It's just as much about the food as the beauty of the table with our tiered servers, fresh flowers and such.

I think you know that Scott had seriously considered being a chef when we were dating (he gave up the idea because it didn't seem conducive to family life - too many nights and weekends. Instead he's a youth minister - which of course is lots of nights and weekends), anyway, he taught me from the beginning with cooking, the biggest secret about great tasting food is presentation, presentation, presentation.

Scott's great with that. When he cooks for us (which is basically on all of his days off) his food not only tastes great, it looks awesome. Every single night since our zucchini plants began producing one or more zucchinis a day this summer, Scott sautes chopped zucchini, Roma tomatoes (our garden Romas will be ready next week - can't wait), onions and lots of garlic in olive oil. Simple, quick and scrumptious and it smells and looks great, too.

Add the fact that Mary Kate runs out a couple of times a week and creates bouquets of flowers from our garden for the dinner table and all in all, I'm definitely living the sweet life!

And Jacquelyn, thanks for the tip on the bamboo - it really does look cool.

Great shot with four of my favorite guys!1 It's still hard to believe that John is 20!! The birthday brunch was delicious, and it was great to see where John works. The owners complimented me on what a wonderful son we have, and then treated us to a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate. Dad wants to point out that John was so anxious to get out of the womb and enjoy life that he was born in the waiting room of the Birth Center on that memorable early morning of June 8, 1988!

PS I can't resist this comment since since I studied French for 4 years. Cal, the spelling of the word that you used to describe the restaurant is chic!!

Thanks Mom for the editorial note- I don't mind being corrected at all- it's a risk I take in blogging! So far my main mistakes have included the shotgun Wedding story implying a family scandal and a mistaken attempt to spell a French word in the English language. I'm sure there have been more embarrassing little errors- I never claimed to be a writer!

go on and keep blogging! the Errors make it more fun!! (Jax and I really had a good laugh over the shotgun wedding!)
And i knew that the word was spelled wrong but honestly couldn't think of how it was supposed to be, so i'm glad i know now too! Although in my life, it's a word that doesn't come into play very often at all!!!
